Post & Panel Retaining walls
Post and panel retaining walls are a modular, engineered system featuring vertical galvanised steel or concrete posts (‘H’ beams) with horizontal precast concrete panels slotted between them. They offer a durable, space-saving (often 55mm-130mm thick), and faster to install alternative to brick or stone, ideal for residential and commercial terracing.
Key Features and description:
-
Structure: Comprises vertical posts, usually “H” shaped, anchored into concrete footings, with panels slid into the grooves.
-
Components: Prefabricated reinforced concrete panels and posts are standard, often using galvanized steel reinforcements to prevent rust.
-
Installation: Fast, often requiring minimal space; panels are inserted into the tracks of the posts.
-
Strength: Engineered to withstand high soil pressures and environmental factors, with chemical additives often added to the concrete for increased strength.
-
Versatility: Available in various heights (commonly up to 1.5m), designs and colours including smooth grey, cream or decorative finishes.
-
Applications: Suitable for backyard landscaping, steep slopes and creating level, functional garden areas.
Advantages:
-
Space-Saving: Slim profile (approx. 55mm - 130mm) saves valuable space.
-
Cost-Effective: Often more economical than brick or stone due to reduced labor and materials.
-
Durable & Low maintenance: Resistant to rot, termites and fire, with a potential lifespan of decades.
